About Us

ECS Head Start, Early Head Start, and State Preschool are federally funded programs that offer high-quality early childhood and family education at no cost to qualifying families.

Through our programs, we’re able to meet the educational, emotional, social, health, and nutritional needs of children ages 0-5 and their families.

We offer many wraparound services like family and community engagement programs, parenting education opportunities, child developmental screenings, services for children with disabilities, services for pregnant women, behavioral health services, referrals, and other comprehensive developmental services to ensure the best outcome for our families.

We currently serve more than 2,000 families in San Diego each year and hope to continue building a bridge to a brighter future.

ECS Head Start

ECS Head Start provides comprehensive services to children ages 3 – 5 years of age. Head Start service options are designed to meet the needs of families and include:

  • Home-Based: comprehensive services for children from 3 to 5 years of age that include individualized weekly home visits and two monthly group socializations for families.

  • Center-Based: comprehensive services for children ages 3 to 5 years of age. Hours are either extended day (6.5 hours) or part day (3.5 hours).


ECS Early Head Start

Early Head Start focuses on children from birth to three years of age, as well as pregnant and postpartum women. Comprehensive services include parenting classes, individualized plans for children and transition services for children moving onto preschool. ECS Early Head Start program options include:

  • Services for Expectant Families: comprehensive services include home visits twice a month, prenatal classes for pregnant women, and individualized postpartum home visits.

  • Home-Based: comprehensive services for children from birth to 3 years of age including weekly family home visits and two monthly group socializations for families.

  • Center-Based: comprehensive services for children 2 to 3 years of age in a center-based setting, extended day and five days per week.
